Enjoying the Day of the Dead celebration with my family
Every year, we always go down to our neighboring country to the South to be with family and celebrate the Day of the Dead. This has been a tradition for us for as long as I can remember. We always go to the cemetery where our loved ones have been buried and we go to decorate their graves. Believe it or not, it can be hot sometimes during this time of year that far south, so we always have the air conditioning system on when we are driving down there. We always help with all the decorations including all types of flower assortments and papel picado which is a special decoration of chiseled paper to create banners for these special occasions. We tidy up the graves of our loved ones and place all the decorations down and we think about the memories of our loved ones who are resting in peace. Then we celebrate back at home with all kinds of delicious food, music, singing, and laughter. I’m always grateful because our family has a good HVAC system that keeps the house just right with the ideal temperature control settings. They also have a fireplace, and we usually get the fire going in the fireplace towards the evening hours because it can get a little bit chilly during the night. We always have a toast to our loved ones and I always feel like their spirits are with us during our celebrations. It might seem superstitious to some people, but this is what we believe and we have been enjoying these celebrations for as long as I can remember.
