Anyone who is involved in off-road or motorsports professional events is familiar with KMC’s XD brand of off-road truck, SUV, and UTV wheels. They show up at all the events requiring over-the-top driving and pushing the limits of vehicle abuse to succeed. But it wasn’t always that way. For example, in the early 80s, this Riverside, CA-based company had an excellent business building steel wheels for the automotive industry. Fortunately, the company leaders were forward-looking and saw two trends they felt might change the face of the automotive industry. The first was the emerging technology of aluminum alloys, and the second was a growing market demand for pickup trucks.
In the late 80s, KMC created a separate brand, XD, that focused on creating aluminum cast wheels explicitly designed for heavy loads. They launched the XD Rockstar line, which quickly became a favorite in motorsports circles and off-road enthusiasts. The rest is history. XD Series wheels continue to launch new designs available in a myriad of sizes and fitments.
